About Us

New Hope Home is the dream of the late Rev. N.J. Kirkpatrick, Sr. With the help of many church members, friends and HUD (Housing and Urban Development), the dream has become a reality.

New Hope Home Inc. was formed as a nonprofit corporation May 14, 1965, with the following members: Rev. Nathaniel J. Kirkpatrick Sr., Will M. Henderson, Leroy J. Saunders, Sr., Hildren Cheatham, Peter Henderson, Julius Henton and Hubert King. The purpose of New Hope Home was to provide low rent housing for senior citizens, where the elderly may live with dignity and self-respect in a safe and clean atmosphere.

Over a two-year period, land was purchased at 1150 New York Street and funds were acquired from the Senior Citizens Branch of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for 1.7 million dollars for the eight story 140 Unit Building.

Construction began July 1, 1968 and substantially completed and began producing revenue October 15, 1969 with finishing touches completed November 1, 1969.

In April 2011, a complete renovation was started. Every unit and all common areas were updated. A park and garden area were even created. Everything was done with our environment in mind, meaning LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) specifications were followed and were completed in July of 2012.

Fifty years have passed and there have been many board members. Many residents have come and gone and come back again. With the help of God,
THE DREAM – HAS AND WILL LIVE ON.

New Hope Home Inc. was founded as a 501 (c)(3)California nonprofit in 1965.
The initial incorporators were members of New Hope Baptist Church.

The property adjacent to the church which included a 140 unit apartment building was purchased and for the last 57 years has been utilized as low income housing for seniors and disabled persons.

In 2011, New Hope Home LP was created to take advantage of the new laws allowing private investment in Nonprofits in exchange for Federal Tax Credits. With the help of our Tax Credit Limited Partner and HUD, a complete renovation (costing approximately $15 million) of the building and grounds was completed on 2012 .

In 2021, The board of directors decided to expand their mission and provide resource and financial assistance to the underserved community in areas other than just housing.

In order to achieve this goal and to keep it separated from New Hope Home Inc., it was decided to create a new Nonprofit, namely “Hands of New Hope “.

New Hope Home Inc. has committed to provide the initial funding of Hands of New Hope until Grants and other sources of revenue are available.
